Bridge Walk Raises Over $175K—With More Money Still Coming In
At 8am on Saturday, May 16, the sun peaked through the morning sky to shine upon the island in Fabyan Park and the over 1250 walkers and 125 volunteers participating in the 4th Annual Bridge Walk to raise funds for LivingWell Cancer Resource Center. After days of rain, not even Mother Nature could dampen the spirit of gratitude and love that was felt throughout the Walk festivities.
There were family and friends sharing hugs and kisses. Cool Beans the Clown and the Kid's Fun Tent brought sounds of children's laughter and smiles. the Refreshment Tent was packed with walkers sippling Starbuck's coffee and noshing on breakfast treats while they listened to the tunes spun by Rock Solid.
Before the 5K walk began, cancer survivors participated in a Celebration Walk across the bridge that led to the walking path. The Saint Charles East and North high school drill teams and color guard lined the bridge to cheer the survivors on as the survivors held hands and crossed the bridge in celebration of each of their lives.
Although the final numbers are not all in, we expect to raise $200,000! Awards and recognition went to these top fund raisers:
- Corey Waller: Top individual fund raiser
- Linda's Lions: Top team
- Team Starbucks: Top business
- Saint Charles East High School: Top school
Special mention goes to Team Birdsong and captain Susan Birdsong for having the largest team with over 40 walkers.
Grateful thanks to our event sponsor: The Shodeen Family Foundation. Congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to the small but mighty Bridge Walk committee: Cari Zwick, MT Berg, Kathy and Dick Ryan, Jackie Bowman, Noel Storm, and Darcy Ringhofer. And to Jenny Truman, Cheri Hunt and Linda Abendorth, along with the volunteers that helped the day of the walk: You all did an amazing job!
