What is LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

LivingWell is a community-based, not-for-profit center dedicated to providing people living with cancer and their loved ones, the support and educational services they need when going through the cancer experience.

What is the philosophy of LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

LivingWell is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment where participants at our center can share all kinds of emotions and feelings, find hope and encouragement, and seek answers to the many questions that arise. At LivingWell we focus on:

  • Revitalizing the body, mind, & spirit
  • Caring for the individual needs of those living with cancer
  • Transforming fear of the unknown into a sense of empowerment
  • Offering a wealth of current cancer information in a variety of forms
  • Providing a sense of community to help eliminate the isolation that sometimes comes from the cancer experience
  • Providing our resources with dignity, integrity, and professionalism

What kinds of activities take place at LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

LivingWell offers a variety of supportive care initiatives for individuals living with cancer and their loved ones in the form of support and networking groups as well as opportunities for individual counseling.

Educational services, which include a comprehensive cancer focused library, nutrition and cooking classes, creative arts classes, and special presentations on various cancer related topics given by top medical professionals in the oncology field are available to participants as well.

In addition, we provide programs that focus on mind & body fitness including yoga, massage therapy, meditation, Pilates, weight training, Zumba, Reiki and Healing Touch, and QiGong.

Finally, we have developed programs and special events that focus on the family cancer experience and groups exclusively for children either with a cancer diagnosis or those with a cancer diagnosis in the family.

Is there any charge for membership? How much does it cost for services at the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

All services at LivingWell are provided free of charge.

How is LivingWell Cancer Resource Center funded?

Our programs and services are funded through the generous donations of members of our community.  We are also fortunate enough to be awarded various grants each year that make our goal of providing all programs free of charge a reality.

How many people are in each support group?

The number of participants in each of our groups varies depending on the type of group. Most of our support groups average 8-10 people.

How long do the support groups last?

Our groups typically run for 12-week sessions.  Our networking groups meet either once or twice a month.

How can I join LivingWell Cancer Resource Center? Who is eligible to receive services at the Center?

You can get involved at LivingWell by coming in to our center during regular business hours for an orientation or you can call the center at 630-262-1111 for program registration information. 

Anyone diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones are eligible to receive services at LivingWell.

Do I have to be referred by a medical facility? 

You do not have to be referred by a medical facility to participate in our programs.

In order to receive services, must I make a 12-week commitment?

No. While there are a few programs in which the greatest benefit is obtained by making a 12 week commitment, most of the programs offered at LivingWell are flexible and do not require a long term commitment.

I don't live in Geneva. May I still utilize the Center’s services?

Yes. We provide services to anyone touched by cancer regardless of where they live or where they are receiving treatment.

How can I volunteer at LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

Does the medical community support LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

The medical community recognizes that a cancer diagnosis can be life changing. While your medical team works to provide the best possible care to fight the biological components of cancer, centers like LivingWell assist cancer patients and their families through programs and services that meet their needs outside of the medical experience.  These needs include support, mind and body wellness issues, and education surrounding key topics related to the cancer experience. 

Is LivingWell Cancer Resource Center residential? What does LivingWell Cancer Resource Center look like?

We are not a residential facility.  We are a center whose mission is to provide support and information on the cancer experience.  Click here to see photos of our center.

Is there any pressure to "be positive" at LivingWell Cancer Resource Center?

There is no pressure to be anything but who you are and where you are at on your cancer journey. Our team at LivingWell is here to work with you and your family members to find ways to enhance your quality of life while you are impacted by cancer.
